I was lucky to have my birthday fall on a Saturday this year. It was really a fun and special day, made so by all the wonderful boys in my life. My daddy bought me a beautiful new plant for my garden (which is his tradition :-) ). My hubby planned a day around what I thought sounded fun, tho it veered from the comfort of home.
We played tourists for the day, and ventured downtown with our crew. First stop was Lake Union to visit the replica of the Nina. The boys claimed to really enjoy it, tho it wasn't terribly exciting--I really wanted them to have the memory of the ship for later years when we study Columbus more in depth. It was VERY SMALL, considering what it held and accomplished! Lets just say I'm thankful for modern travel!
From there we hopped on the new streetcar and travelled into downtown. We hiked over to Pike Place Market, down stairs and elevator to a favorite little "restaurant" known as "El Puerco Lloron" (the Crying Pig) for the best Mexican food in Washington. It was fabulous. Then we went back to the Marketplace to wade with the masses past the many stands with foods, fruits, treats, art and wares. Best of all, I enjoyed the flowers, which had to come home with me.
The final part of the day's plan was to head to Macy's where I was going to choose some new PJ's (my request), but I knew the boys' good graces were about to give out, so I scrapped that part of the plan and we instead went to Cold Stone Creamery while waiting for the next streetcar. Unfortunately I forgot to pull out my camera for this last stop--it was the saving grace for the day, in the boys' eyes. Left them remembering all fun, and forgetting their tired feet. They had all been wonderful (well, we'll not mention the 3 year-old meltdown), knowing that this was my special day and so they really held back all the complaining which I suspect (well, I KNOW) we'd have heard about all the walking around. Thanks to my mom, who'd been up the day before (with some new purple pillows for my couch!), my living room was beautifully clean to come home to--which was such a nice birthday gift. thanks mom!! In all, it was a fun day and we came home and had Eggo waffles for dinner. I know, low standards (as I was informed by Bradley), but my lunch had left me with little need for good food. just an easy dinner.
Rob grabbed the camera on the ride back, which was a nice change--I like getting pictures with my boys. Thanks boys, for a wonderful day. The only thing I would've changed is the same thing I would change about every day. But Timmy was with us in spirit.
