Medieval Feast

Boy do I have a lot of backtracking to do~~
Back in October, the weekend before I travelled to California, we had our first Medeival Feast. The Solomons and the Rixmanns have both started a new homeschool curriculum this year, called KONOS. It is a wonderful program with lots of activities and hands on--which our kids love! Our first unit was on Obedience (:-) ) and included a long study on Kings and Queens, and Medieval Times. We culminated our unit with a joint family venture--a Medieval Feast. The Solomons hosted, and it was amazing. The kids had loads of fun (as evidenced by all the smiles), and I think they learned a few things, too. (click on collages to see them larger). The fare included some genuine medieval recipes, and chickens dressed up in feathers !

Lord Gabriel had prepared a short presentation on King Richard the Lionhearted, which he read for all of us. The final sentence was my favorite, "And that is all I have to say about King Richard the Lionhearted!" Gabe had also designed a special
gift for Chloe, as it was almost her birthday.

After the meal and presentations, the real fun began. Princesses, minstrels, and daring knights took to the field...
There was a short break to watch Disney's "Robin Hood", and then more swordplay...and bikeriding! Somehow, no knight was injured in all this fierce fighting ...but the drama was intense!

I LOVE THESE! So fun!

I think Levi may be the fiercest of all. He rather scares me. :-)

(Leah, where are the pics of YOUR outfit???)

How FUN! We homeschool and while I haven't used KONOS, we have done the Middle Ages and we loved it. Is there any period of history that is more fun to study? I look forward to following and reading some more of your adventures.
